The 2025 Toyota bZ4X is very affordable right now.

The Toyota bZ4X isn't our favorite EV, with slow charging speeds, modest range, and underpowered software.

Still, it's not a bad option for the right price.

Toyota just dropped its base price by $6,000, making it a much better deal.

Thinking:

I think it’s fair to say at this point that the Toyota bZ4X has a bit of a reputation. The only electric offering in the U.S. from electric-car skeptic Toyota, it has a shorter range and slower charging speed than many comparable rivals. But if you want an EV from a trusted brand and are looking for a good deal, the bZ4X has consistently proven itself to be a solid choice.

Just days after announcing some aggressive new 0% lease and financing deals (the latter of which is nearly impossible to find in the current economic climate), Toyota revealed pricing and features for the 2025 bZ4X. While it didn’t get the boost in charging speed or range that many fans wanted, it’s now quite affordable.

As before, the bZ4X comes in two trim levels: the XLE or loaded Limited. Both can be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with 252 or 228 miles of range, respectively. But there’s now a Nightshade trim in between, which adds 20-inch black alloy wheels, available two-tone paint, a heated steering wheel, and other all-black touches. This trim level adds “more standard driver-assistance technology on the Limited grade, including Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Front Cross Traffic Alert,” Toyota said in a press release. The Nightshade version is also AWD-only.

The real news here is the price. The base XLE FWD starts at $37,070, which is 14% cheaper than last year's model. The MSRP for the XLE AWD grade still starts at $39,150. That's about $6,000 less than before. Plus, the Limited trim starts at $41,800 in FWD form, which shaves $5,380 off the old car's price.

The bZ4X is limited by its technology and its mid-range fast charging, which tops out at 150kW. The EV should charge to 80% from the “low battery warning” in about 30 minutes, but some users have reported it takes about an hour to do so. It also won’t automatically add charging stops along your route on long trips, nor let you precondition the battery for charging. Plus, it’s a surprisingly fun-to-drive electric crossover, much more dynamically interesting than your average RAV4, and it’s quite capable of hauling gear.

If you’re interested in the bZ4X, keep an eye out for deals in your area. You might be able to get a solid-driving EV without a lot of money, especially when you value gas savings.

Summary:

Toyota has significantly reduced pricing for the 2025 bZ4X electric SUV, making it more affordable for consumers. The base front-wheel drive (FWD) XLE model now starts at $38,465, including a $1,395 destination charge, representing a $6,000 drop from the 2024 model. The Limited FWD trim is priced at $43,195, a $5,380 reduction. All-wheel drive (AWD) versions are available for an additional $2,080.

In addition to the price cut, Toyota has introduced a new Night Shade Edition for the bZ4X. Based on the XLE AWD trim, the Night Shade features distinctive styling elements, including black 20-inch wheels, badging, door handles, and a black rear spoiler. It offers exterior color options such as Windchill Pearl or Heavy Metal with a black roof and an all-black interior with red stitching.

The 2025 bZ4X also comes with enhanced driver assistance features. The Limited trim now includes Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Change Assist, and Front Cross Traffic Alert as standard. Traffic Jam Assist allows for hands-free driving in stop-and-go traffic at speeds below 25 mph.

To enhance charging convenience, Toyota is offering one year of free charging at EVgo public stations for 2025 bZ4X owners. The vehicle includes a dual-voltage charging cable compatible with Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast charging. Additionally, buyers can choose to include the cost of a Level 2 home charger in their purchase or lease.

These updates aim to make the 2025 Toyota bZ4X a more competitive option in the electric SUV market.
