Eid al-Adha, also recognized as the "Centenary of the Detriment", is an significant Islamic festival remembering the readiness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to detriment his son Ismail (Ismail) in obedience to God (Allah). It concurs with the close of the Hajj journey and involves the ritual sacrifice of an animal, usually a sheep, goat, cow or camel. The sacrificial meat is distributed among family, friends and the less fortunate. The holiday includes special prayers, social gatherings, and acts of charity, reflecting themes of faith, obedience, and community.
