Create a dashboard in Microsoft Power BI:  Lesson-4

Designing a visually appealing and informative dashboard in Power BI using an Excel file is the best way to get insights from your data. Here is a step-by-step guide:

1. Connect to your Excel file:

  • Open Power BI Desktop.
  • In the "Home" tab, click "Get Data".
  • Select "Excel" and choose your Excel file.
  • Select the specific sheet(s) or tables you want to connect to.
  • Click "Load" to import the data into Power BI. or
  • Click "Edit" or "Transform Data to clean data (Modify data) if required (optional)

 

  • Click on Get data(Step 1)

 

  • Select Excel Work Book

 

  • Select Required Excel Workbook (and click on Load button)

 

  • its in Report View (after loading)

2. Prepare your data (optional):

  • Power BI automatically imports your data, but you may need to clean or transform it before you can create a visualization.
  • In the "Modeling" tab, use the "Transform Data" option to access the Power Query Editor.
  • Here you can remove unwanted columns, filter data, change data types, etc.
  • Make sure your data is structured and ready for visualization.

3. Create your visuals:

  • In the "Report" tab, you will find different types of visuals such as bar charts, line charts, maps, tables, etc.
    • Right panel of visual tools

  • Drag and drop the desired visual onto the report canvas.
  • Select your data fields (headings) to adjust each visual, colors, axes, labels, etc.
  • Experiment with different visuals to find the best way to represent your data.

 

  • Select ID , Name & Saleray from employee table Step 2

 

  • Select Pie char then data convert in Pie shape (Step 3)
  •  

 

  • You can also resize view 

 

  • Add another chart in dashboard (Step 4)

    • click on dashboard not on any chart 

    • double click required chart icon to display on dashboard 

  • Save this dashboard

  • Document folder view
